What Should Your Skin-Care Products Contain?

It’s good to know the ingredients in skin-care products we use on a daily basis. Conscious skin care is the first step towards a flawless face. We can find more and more information on this topic because consumers want to know what they put on their faces. Cosmetics without harmful substances surely make the skin, hair and nails look better.

Top skin-care ingredients

Pure vegetable oils or butters boast simple composition. These days, you can find them in nearly every store.

Most oils are extracted from fruits, seeds and other parts of plants. Butters are solid forms of vegetable oils rich in fatty acids that make up a great source of beneficial ingredients. They soften and add elasticity to skin, as well as provide ingredients that are essential to strengthen the epidermis. Additionally, they hold water in skin, control the secretion of oil and abound in antibacterial, anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory substances.

Oils vs oily skin

Oils are obviously greasy but this doesn’t mean you can’t use them for oily skin. Some oils feature linoleic acid which makes up sebum, therefore it’s able to balance the functioning of sebaceous glands.

Are all butters and oils equally fruitful?

Sadly, they are not. What makes oils useful or useless? Only the method of extraction. Mechanical extraction is the best since it doesn’t involve any chemicals or heating. This is how cold-pressed oils are produced, having intense color and smell. They will give you the best effects in your beauty routine.

How to make the most of face-care oils?

Ideally, use them on damp skin for better absorption. You can apply them to dry skin but the effect won’t be as intensive. Feel free to mix pure oil (e.g. argan oil) with your fave beauty products (e.g. moisturizer) or other oils.

Hyaluronic acid

This is another potent ingredient. It naturally occurs in the body and maintains optimal hydration in skin. Its amount drops when we age so skin is no longer plump and elastic. Hyaluronic acid-based products come to rescue bringing plumpness and smoothness back. They have an anti-wrinkle effect and strengthen the skin’s protective mantle.

If you use hyaluronic gel, a little goes a long way. You shouldn’t use it solo, though. It works best when added to serums or oils. It can’t moisturize the skin when used on its own.

Always go through the ingredients in products you plan to buy and consciously choose ones that improve skin. Rummage through your products and replace them with natural, eco-friendly ones. Make sure active ingredients are on top of the INCI list so you know a product is high in them.
